Most people coming to the Cal-Salmon are coming for action…and that's what they get! The first day usually takes place on the upper section and begins with Bloomer Falls; a narrow Class IV+ drop. The pace quickens as we descend into a deep beautiful sheer granite gorge. One of the early Class IV & V challenges is Cascade, a 15-foot stair-step waterfall. The day's climax happens after lunch at Freight Train, a long and tumultuous series of big holes, waves and obstacles. We often continue downstream in the afternoon through the less intense lower Butler Creek section. Back at camp for the night, a delicious dinner, campfire and dessert are interspersed with excited talk about the challenges conquered during the first day. On the second day we put-in again at Nordheimer Campground and raft the most exciting upper seven miles again before we end our adventure at Butler Creek.
